Lee was founded in 1889 by Henry David Lee as the HD Lee Mercantile Company in Salina, Kansas. Initially, the company made pants and jackets.
The brand became famous with the introduction of the Union-All work overalls in 1913 and the first overalls in 1920.
Lee continued to innovate and in 1926 introduced the world's first ever zippered jeans (101Z).
In the 1930s and 1940s, Lee became the leading manufacturer of workwear in the United States.
